How to measure for replacement windows & doors

01

Brick to brick

Measure the structural opening from outside in millimetres, brick to brick. Don't measure the old frame. It's usually smaller than the hole, and it's coming out anyway.

02

Three places each way

Measure the width at the top, middle and bottom, and the height left, centre and right. Openings are rarely straight, so the smallest figure is the one that counts.

03

Check it's square

Measure both diagonals, corner to corner. If they differ by more than 10mm the opening is out of square. The frame is made to the smallest size and packed square.

04

Leave a fitting gap

New frames are made slightly smaller so they can be packed, fixed and sealed. That's 10mm for white frames up to 3m. Coloured and woodgrain frames expand more in the sun, so they need about 50% more.

Older Cardiff terraces often have frames set behind the outer brickwork. Those are measured differently, and our tool asks you about it. Whatever you enter, our surveyor confirms every size on site before anything is made. We never manufacture from online measurements alone.
